The Boulder Rock Club is canceling its planned Thursday information session with the two of 11 Boulder City Council candidates who were invited because they're “favorable to climbing.”

Club manager Mike Alkaitis sent a message Friday to members announcing the session and outlining concerns about future access to climbing routes. Alkaitis said the information session generated controversy with a small number of members, prompting the two candidates who'd been invited to decide not to go forward with the event.

“We decided it would not be not productive to have a yelling match,” he said.
