Erie town trustees unanimously passed a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries Tuesday night.

The ordinance prohibits not only pot shops, but growing operations and infused-product manufacturing in town. The ban will take effect Jan. 21.

Erie doesn't have any dispensaries now and hasn't received any applications for a facility in town.

Trustees said they would like to see how other municipalities in Colorado that haven't banned dispensaries handle the controversial trade before committing Erie to any kind of regulatory scheme.

The vote was 6-0 in favor of the ban. Trustee Paul Ogg was absent.

Louisville and Lafayette each have two medical marijuana dispensaries that are within a short drive of Erie.
