Smart Balance Inc., the natural foods firm that previously announced plans to relocate its headquarters to Boulder, formally changed its name to Boulder Brands Inc., company officials said today.

The company's shares will continue to trade on the Nasdaq exchange, but under the ticker “BDBD.”

Boulder Brands officials also provided an updated timeline on the move of the company's headquarters to Boulder, noting that the establishment of an office in downtown Boulder is scheduled to occur in the summer.

“Our mission is to become the leading health and wellness company by building out and acquiring natural brands,” Steve Hughes, Boulder Brands' chief executive, said in a statement. “With our natural brands — Udi's, Glutino and Earth Balance — expected to represent greater than 50 percent of net revenue in 2013, we are a more diversified growth company.”

The company was founded in 2005 in Boulder County as Boulder Specialty Brands. After the acquisition of GFA Brands Inc., which made Smart Balance and Earth Balance spread products, the company subsequently rebranded as Smart Balance Inc. and moved the corporate headquarters to New Jersey.

In October 2012, Smart Balance announced it would relocate to Boulder.
