A fire destroyed a school bus used by the owner of McDevitt Taco Supply and damaged a vehicle that was parked next to it early Saturday morning.
Boulder police found the small school bus "fully engulfed in flames" behind the Safeway grocery store at 4800 Baseline Road around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the blotter on the department's website.
McDevitt Taco Supply is in the same plaza as Safeway.
A nearby employee that was on a closing shift contacted the police. His car was also damaged, according to officials.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but Bradford McDevitt, the restaurant owner, thinks it is a case of arson.
"That would be the only thing that made sense to me," he said. "I've had stuff stored in it for three years and nothing's set on fire."
A post about the torched bus on the McDevitt Taco Supply page on Facebook says, "It's a sad day in taco land. ... Any information leading to the arrest of the arsonist will be compensated with free tacos for life."
It is unclear from the blotter report if law enforcement are still investigating the case. McDevitt said that investigators were coming to look at the bus on Monday. An email seeking clarification that the investigation is ongoing was not immediately answered.
McDevitt bought the bus about three years ago and uses it to store backup equipment and taco-making gear, he said. The bus and everything in it was destroyed by the fire, but he said he has insurance.
