BOULDER, Colo. -
Boulder's String Cheese Incident -- which disbanded in 2007 following a 14-year run -- will reunite this summer to play a single concert at the Rothbury festival in Michigan over the Fourth of July weekend.
Yet aside from confirming String Cheese's participation in the July 2-5 concert northwest of Detroit, the reunited jam band's representatives were mum Monday.
"Rothbury is the only 2009 show the band is playing," said publicist Carrie Lombardi, of Boulder's Madison House Publicity. "We choose to let the statement speak for itself."
The band's members, through Lombardi, also declined to discuss the reunion.
News of String Cheese Incident's reactivation comes a little more than a week after fellow jam band Phish played its first concerts in nearly five years. That band's members have said they're back together for good.
But it remains unclear what String Cheese Incident plans for its future, aside from the single 2009 gig.
String Cheese Incident called it quits in August 2007 following a final run of dates at Morrison's fabled Red Rocks Amphitheatre. At the time, the band announced guitarist Billy Nershi was leaving the group to pursue other musical projects, and, "There are no plans for the String Cheese Incident beyond summer of 2007."
Monday, Lombardi said the "original band" would perform at Rothbury, but declined to specify whether that means Nershi is rejoining his bandmates.
In addition to Nershi, the band included mandolin player Michael Kang, drummer Michael Travis, keyboard player Kyle Hollingsworth and bassist Keith Moseley. A sixth member, percussionist Jason Hann, joined in 2006.
String Cheese Incident appears on the Rothbury bill just below The Dead and Bob Dylan. Other acts performing include Willie Nelson, the Black Crowes, Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Gov't Mule.
The festival is produced by Boulder's Madison House Presents -- an offshoot of String Cheese's business operations -- and AEG Live.
"We have an amazing lineup at Rothbury," said Don Strasburg, senior vice president with Denver-based AEG Live Rocky Mountain, who helped book the festival. "We're also excited that String Cheese is playing its only show of 2009 there.
"String Cheese pays so much attention to detail that we knew they'd be able to pull off over-the-top festival sets. Rothbury is the perfect setting for the band to take its experience to the next level.
"It's the only place they're playing for awhile."
But String Cheese won't be the only Colorado act on the bill.
Nederland's Yonder Mountain String Band is performing, as is Fort Collins' Pretty Lights. And Hollingsworth is playing his own set at the festival.
Ben Baruch, the Fox Theatre's head talent buyer, also will be there, playing in the Underground Orchestra for the second year at Rothbury.
"My band played Rothbury last year and it was an amazing experience," Baruch said. "It's definitely one of the best festivals I've been to."
Tickets for Rothbury go on sale 10 a.m. MDT Friday.

They reported Boulder Pirate Radio to the FCC during their "farewell" show at the Fox so.... WHO CARES WHAT THEY DO NOW?
I bet they were sad to see the end of the George Bush and Dick Cheney administration.

Gee, I take this statement as it's the only show they were able to book for the year (and they did the booking themselves). Nobody has been upset that they haven't been playing; in fact the music scene in Boulder is less smelly without them around.
