Monte Sutak, longtime Lafayette resident, died peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday morning, May 13, 2008, in Wayne, Neb., of sudden cardiac death. He was 57 years old.

Monte retired to Wayne in 2005 after a long career with Boulder Valley School District, where he left an indelible mark as a teacher, coach, administrator and most of all, a friend.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Vicki Sutak; daughter Carrie Ann Sutak of Wayne; sister Jenny Huebner and her husband, Jim Huebner, and nephew Cody Huebner of Lafayette; brother Scott Sutak and wife Teri Sutak and family of Lafayette; honorary daughter Tammy James and husband Jimmie James of Keenesburg, Colo.; two grandchildren, Taylor James and Hailey James, of Keenesburg; and his dog Shi-Anne Sutak.

Monte was preceded in death by his father, Tom Sutak, and mother, Ivon (Weiler) Sutak.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20, at 1 p.m., at the Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette. Visitation will be held Monday, May 19, from 4-7 p.m., at Darrell Howe Mortuary in Lafayette. A reception will follow the service at the Lafayette VFW.
