Boulder police are investigating a report of an assault and attempted robbery late Thursday near 22nd and Spruce streets.
A 20-year-old man was hospitalized after he was attacked and injured by a man who demanded money from him about 11:10 p.m. Thursday, said Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.
Huntley said the victim and suspect appear to know each other, and police do not believe it was a random attack.
The victim told police the suspect came to his apartment, demanded money, then punched tried to strangle him.
Huntley said the man’s injuries are not considered serious, but the attempted strangulation means police are treating the incident as a second-degree assault.
The victim told officers that his attacker left the scene without any cash, Huntley said.
