A single-story home in north Boulder was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday night.

Dispatchers received a report of flames coming from the home at 2484 Yarmouth Ave. at 6:35 p.m., Boulder County sheriff's Sgt. Vinnie Montez said. By the time firefighters from Boulder Rural Fire Protection District were on scene, flames were coming from the roof of the home, and the house soon was engulfed in flames.

Montez said the homeowner got out of the house before firefighters arrived and was not injured. There was no one else in the house at the time.

The Boulder County Assessor's Office lists Paul and Rosalie Eberle as the owners of the property, which is located southeast of Broadway and U.S. 36.

sits among a scattered collection of older wood-frame homes and trailers off a dirt road. Neighbors said the area is not served by city water and has no hydrants.

A series of tanker trucks from seven fire departments came and went on Yarmouth as firefighters fought the blaze.

Crews worked for more than three hours to extinguish the fire. Montez said the structure was unstable, so firefighters had to put water on it from outside the house.

Boulder Rural was assisted by the Boulder Fire Department, Boulder Emergency Rescue, Sunshine Fire Protection District, Rocky Mountain Fire Department, Left Hand Fire Protection District, Louisville Fire Department and Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, Montez said.

Montez said no other homes were threatened by the fire. They were protected in part by the damp weather.

The cause of the fire is not known, but Montez said it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

The flames were visible about a quarter-mile away from U.S. 36 and many people pulled over on the shoulder to watch the fire.
