International star Angelique Kidjo just performed at the World Cup with a star-studded musical lineup.

However, Kidjo is only making four tour stops in the United States. Boulder made the cut, and Friday night, the Grammy winner headlines the Boulder Theater.

The African singer is on the road promoting her new single, "Move On Up." The very danceable song features guest appearances by Bono and John Legend.

"It was great to perform at the World Cup," Kidjo said. "You feel humbled to be part of such a large event. This is a moment in time when all things are shifting, and Africa is becoming more and more important in the world."

Kidjo will be playing songs from her latest CD, Oyo, in Boulder. The record embraces soul, R&B and jazz sounds, and features the singer's interpretations of tunes by James Brown, Otis Redding and Carlos Santana.

"I paid tribute to my father on this record," Kidjo said. "I also paid tribute to music that really influenced by life. The music of Motown really helped me dream big.

to education and music."

When she's not promoting her music, Kidjo is busy working on humanitarian causes.

The performer's a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations' UNICEF organization and she promotes education for girls in Africa.

Kidjo was also involved in the 2010 Live Earth Run for Water event with musician Pete Wentz and actress Jessica Biel.

"Things need to be done for the planet," Kidjo said. "We need to stand up for all people. Everything is linked together by one thread and everyone has to be taken into account."

Kidjo is also getting ready for tonight's concert in Boulder.

"Boulder is one of my five favorite cities in America," Kidjo said. "I want everyone who comes out to forget their worries and celebrate being alive.

"This moment will be very special in Boulder."
