LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Below is a transcript of Colorado coach Dan Hawkins' postgame meeting with the press outside the CU locker room at Memorial Stadium on the Kansas campus today. It was the second consecutive week, Hawkins cut the session short.
The Buffs surrendered a 28-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 52-45 in the largest comeback in Kansas history.
Is there anyway you can explain something like this?
"Just got to finish, you know? Just got to learn how to finish," Hawkins said. "Got to know what it's like to be in the lead and know how to finish."
A couple of the guys said you hadn't been in this position before and didn't handle it well (as a team)?
"When you're ahead like that you need to learn how to finish. You got to be able to stop them and continue to do your deal. So when you don't, you give the other team momentum."
Rodney Stewart said when they cut the lead to 14, you brought the team together. What did you tell them?
"Just told them, 'Relax. We're still up by 14. Let's go. We're the team that's ahead. Forget about momentum and all that. We're still in control here.' So."
The players said that they thought they had the game won at halftime. Did you sense that among the players?
"Well, I don't know, and that certainly wasn't my message. I mean, that can be a problem again with just learning how to handle those situations."
Did the onside kick catch you guys by surprise?
"A little bit. We kind of thought that they might. We were ready for it. They did a good job executing it."
A couple people who were down there said they thought Cameron Ham had the ball the whole time. Were you surprised the call went that way?
"Can't comment on that."
Did you think Paul Richardson caught the pass in the end zone toward the end?
"Can't comment on that either."
