See what Boulder's weather is like now at the National Center for Atmospheric Research hereAfter dropping about 7 inches of snow in Boulder, the snowstorm that moved into the area Wednesday night is tapering off.
"The accumulation, from this point on, should be pretty insignificant," local meteorologist Matt Kelsch said at about 2:30 p.m.
After a brief warm-up Friday, more snow and colder temperatures are again expected for this weekend. Storms are predicted to roll through Boulder on Friday night into Saturday and then again on Sunday night into Monday.
"They'll both be light events, but they will be with very cold temperatures," Kelsch said. "Tomorrow, we should get a little above freezing so what's left on the road may melt."
But this afternoon's commute could still be dicey as temperatures continue to drop and the slush on the road freezes, Kelsch said.
The snow that fell overnight made for a slow commute this morning in Boulder County. Crews dealt with numerous slide-offs in Boulder Canyon, at McCaslin Boulevard and South Boulder Road and on the hill on U.S. 287 between South Boulder Road and Baseline.
The city and county of Broomfield was on accident alert for several hours this morning, meaning drivers involved in non-injury accidents should clear the road, exchange information and make a report later. But Broomfield canceled the accident alert around 10:30 a.m.
Dispatchers said McCaslin was essentially closed at South Boulder this morning due to the number of stuck vehicles. Colorado Department of Transportation crews put down more sand there and on U.S. 287.
Commuters also reported slow-going on Boulder-bound U.S. 36 due to minor accidents and icy conditions.
Colo. 93 outside of Eldorado Springs was also very icy this morning, and Colorado State Patrol dealt with at least one injury accident near the Rocky Flats Lounge.
Boulder Valley School District schools all operated on a normal schedule.
Kelsch said between 5 and 7 inches fell overnight in southern Boulder County, including the city of Boulder, Nederland and Superior, as well as in Broomfield County. The northern part of the county, including Lyons and Longmont, saw between 3 and 5 inches.
Winds are expected to calm down by late evening. The overnight low will be just 9 degrees, the weather service said.
Friday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 36 degrees, but there's a 60 percent chance of more snow late Friday into Saturday morning, the weather service said.
The high Saturday should be near 25 degrees under cloudy skies before clearing Sunday.
