A 35-year-old Boulder man is facing sexual assault charges after a woman told police he invited her to sleep over at his Folsom Street home following a night of drinking, then raped her, according to police records.
Boulder police arrested Timothy Jeremiah Young on Friday on suspicion of sexual assault and sexual assault on a helpless victim.
Young is free from the Boulder County Jail on $25,000 bond and due in court to be formally charged July 13.
He could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
According to a police report, the woman told police she drove into Boulder from Longmont on May 12 to go dancing and drinking. She eventually lost track of the people she was with and was unable to reach a friend she had planned to stay with.
The woman told police she had been getting suggestive texts throughout the night from Young, whom she considers a longtime friend. The woman did admit that on several occasions in the past, she had kissed Young and admitted to having feelings toward him.
The woman said she was "wrecked" at the end of the night and was desperate to find someplace to stay, according to the report. After Young invited her to stay at his house, she agreed as long as he didn't try to have sex with her.
After getting back to his house -- where the woman said two other people were sleeping in the living room -- she told police they smoked marijuana before she laid down in the bed while Young slept on the floor. A while later, the woman said Young laid down next to her and began touching and grabbing her before raping her, according to the report.
After about 30 seconds, the woman told police, Young stopped and tried to console her. He offered to drive her somewhere, but when she said she wanted to be taken to a friend's house, he said he couldn't because her friend would be angry.
The woman left Young's house and was able to find a cab, which dropped her off at her friend's house, where she spent the night, according to the report. She went to Boulder Community Hospital the next day and reported the rape. A sexual assault examination did find bleeding.
According to police records, the woman later called Young at detectives' request, and police recorded the conversation, in which Young at one point said, "I fully understand I raped you."
Young has prior arrests for driving under the influence and driving while ability impaired.
