"Angry Birds Star Wars" gives you two worlds from the "Star Wars" saga to begin with. You can choose from Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine or begin the Path of the Jedi on Dagobah. You can also explore Hoth when the free download becomes available. The level of Tatooine is beautiful. While it may not be the most accurate representation of the world from the movie, the dusty landscapes will make you feel right at home. Dagobah's first level is playable, but the other levels are only available through a paid download.
The characters in "Angry Birds Star Wars" are feathery interpretations of your favorite "Star Wars" characters. Each character has a power that alters the way the game is played. Each bird has been outfitted with a costume that makes it look like one of your favorite characters. It is easy to point out Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and others.
"Angry Birds Star Wars" tells the story of the first three original movies in the "Star Wars" franchise. The story is told in animated cutscenes that blend the moments from the films with the charm and humor the "Angry Birds" franchise is known for. The sounds of the game sound like they were ripped straight from the movie. Every lightsaber and laser sounds authentic. The music used in the game is also impressive and would make John Williams proud.
The gameplay in "Angry Birds Star Wars" starts as you would expect. You fling your screaming birds toward the pigs to try to take them out. The gameplay changes when you learn to use the force. Every character as its own power that changes the gameplay. Luke has his lightsaber, Han has his laser pistol, and Obie Wan uses force push to take out the portly Stormtroopers. There are even bonus levels where icons R2-D2 and C-3PO take center stage. This attention to detail brings some fresh strategy and replay ability to the franchise and is a welcomed edition.
"Angry Birds Star Wars" is a fun game. Anyone who was worried about the use of the "Star Wars" license should give it a try. It is a true love letter to the famous franchise. The only negative is the massive amounts of paid content that is required to play the game. While Tatooine is free, the Path of the Jedi level is mostly paid. While Hoth is coming as a free download, "Angry Birds Star Wars" seems that it is lacking content at launch. Chances are, though, if you are a true fan of either of these franchises, you will be paying for the extra content. "Angry Birds Star Wars" is so great that it makes me wish for other crossovers in the future. The force is strong with this one, and if you don't agree, then maybe you should join the Sith.
