Arapahoe Road will be closed between 55th and 75th Streets for three straight nights beginning Sunday while crews demolish a railroad bridge that is set to be replaced as part of an ongoing roadway reconstruction project in the area.

The closures, announced by the Colorado Department of Transportation on Friday, will begin Sunday when the stretch of road will be shut down from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday. The roadway also will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday into Tuesday and Tuesday into Wednesday, according to CDOT.

CDOT is directing motorists to use a detour consisting of 75th Street, Valmont Road and 55th Street during the demolition work and to plan for an additional 10 to 15 minutes of travel time.

Bus stops in the work zone will be closed each night and riders are advised to visit for revised bus schedules.

The work is part of CDOT's Colo. 7 reconstruction project which will widen the roadway in some areas and add a new multi-use path along much of it. The bridge must be replaced to accommodate the wider road, according to CDOT.
