Trader Joe's today is starting to hire employees for the Boulder and Denver-area grocery stores that are slated to open on Valentine's Day.

The hiring office for the Boulder store, which is under construction at 1906 28th St., is located in the Community Room on the plaza level of the Twenty Ninth Street mall, said Alison Mochizuki, a spokeswoman for the Monrovia, Calif.-based specialty grocery chain.

Mochizuki said she could not disclose information at this time about the number of employees that Trader Joe's expects to hire for its Boulder store. She also declined to comment about the wage range and breakdown of part- and full-time positions.

In addition to the store in Boulder, Trader Joe's also has planned Feb. 14 openings for stores at 5901 S. University Blvd., in Greenwood Village, and 750 N. Colorado Blvd., in Denver.

The hiring details for the Boulder and Denver stores are as follows:

Boulder -- Community Room at Twenty Ninth Street mall, 1685 28th St., Boulder. Applications accepted 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week and from 9 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Denver (Cherry Hills) -- Cherry Hills Marketplace in Suite 2500B next to the 5901 S. University store. Applications accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday of this week.

Denver (Colorado Boulevard) -- Hilton Garden Inn, 600 S. Colorado Blvd. in Denver. Applications accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday of this week.

The opening dates for previously announced stores at 390 E. Seventh Ave. in Denver and 3500 S. College Ave. in Fort Collins have yet to be scheduled.

When Trader Joe's opens in Boulder, it will enter a crowded grocery field that recently gained a new competitor in a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Local industry analysts have said that Trader Joe's could pull sales from existing mid-tier grocers but also draw in customers from the region and bolster sales tax revenue for Twenty Ninth Street and the city of Boulder.
