Coach Mike MacIntyre and the Buffs were nominated to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and did so after Friday's morning practice. The Buffs were nominated by Art Chase, the assistant director of athletics/external affairs at Duke University, as well as by McGuckin Hardware in Boulder.
MacIntyre, the seniors and the captains all lined up and dumped buckets of ice water on their heads to complete the challenge. Then, they issued a challenge to President Barack Obama.
"Our guys know about it and have seen a lot of it on television," MacIntyre said of the challenge. "It is a terrible, terrible disease and we need to find a cure for it. The two pro football players (Steve Gleason and O.J. Brigance) really hits home to our guys."
The Buffs were beaten to the punch in nominating Obama, however. Ethel Kennedy did so earlier in the week. Following that challenge from Kennedy, the White House issued a statement saying that Obama's "contribution to this effort will be monetary."
