One of downtown Boulder's major music and dance venues, the Boulder House, will host its last party on Halloween, management said in a Facebook post that was confirmed by owner Reid Pellegrin.

"We have shortened our lease and are leaving on Nov. 2," Pellegrin said on Facebook. "We were unable to come to any lease agreements that we felt gave us a chance to be successful."

Pellegrin declined to comment when contacted Monday but confirmed the closure.

On Facebook, he said, "This place has been the center of huge parties in Boulder for years, and it seems like that era for this building is now over."

The building, at 1109 Walnut St., is owned by Don Strasburg and his partners. Strasburg is a principal in AEG Entertainment and Z2 entertainment.

Strasburg could not be reached for comment. He acquired the building in April 2015 for $4.1 million, according to property records.

Boulder House opened there in September 2015. The site has long been a thriving party venue downtown and was previously home to the Foundry and the Absinthe House.

Its next-door neighbor, the Walnut Brewery, was acquired earlier this year by Frank Day and partners and Boulder Beer opened in that space in July.

Day said the Boulder House building, with its first floor and mezzanine and its rooftop, is a major space on Walnut.

Day, who founded Old Chicago and who also owns the Hotel Boulderado, said he had heard rumors that the owners were planning a venue with an emphasis on food, as well as entertainment.

"I think it will be good," he said. "It will be a new energy source."

It will also be another bar.

"Look," said Day, "There are way too many bars and restaurants in downtown Boulder. We all know that. But the hotels are bringing in new people, and Boulder is getting busier and busier."

Pellegrin is counting on that vibe to help give his venue a proper send-off.

"Our last night will be Halloween and the week leading up will be insane!! Thank you so much to everyone who showed support along the way," Pellegrin wrote.

"Boulder is a gorgeous town, and the people I have met here will carry with me forever!"
