The University of Colorado men's golf team slipped from sixth to ninth place after the second round of the NCAA Central/Fayetteville Regional on Friday in Arkansas.

Host Arkansas shot the only round under par and vaulted from fifth to first with a two-round total of 573. Illinois is one stroke back in second. Texas is third (583), followed by Oklahoma State (590) and Kent State (591).

Only the top five teams advance to the NCAA Finals and CU is now 11 strokes behind that last spot at 602.

"The course was playing a lot more difficult and we played poorly at the worst possible time," CU coach Roy Edwards said. "We had three guys go high and had to count two 80s, and you just can't get away with that. You have to be consistent to advance, and it will now take an extremely good round to move on. So we're a little frustrated but have to put it behind us."

Senior Derek Fribbs shot CU's best score Friday, a 1-over 73 at The Blessings Golf Club. His 3-over total of 147 paces the Buffs and has him tied for 23rd.

CU freshman Philip Juel-Berg is tied for 32nd after shooting a 77 for a two-round total of 150.

David Oraee, who opened with a 71 Thursday, carded one of the two 80s CU had to count. He's now tied for 34th at 151. Jason Burstyn also carded an 80 to lead to his 154 total (tied for 44th).

Three players -- SMU's Mario Clemens, Arkansas' Austin Cook and Stephen F. Austin's Mitchell McLeroy -- are tied for first at 140.

The top two individuals not on the top five automatic qualifying teams will also advance to the NCAA Finals. The Buffs will have much work to do in the final round Saturday to be among either group.
