Boulder police have arrested a fifth suspect in the June 16 robbery of the New Options Wellness Center, a medical marijuana dispensary in the 2800 block of E. Aurora Ave.

Kevin Scott Beauford, 42, of Lafayette, was arrested Friday at his home on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft, forgery and three counts of child abuse.

Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said Beauford had his three children, between the ages of 5 and 10, in his car at the time of the robbery. Beauford did not enter the dispensary with the other suspects, police said, but waited outside in another car and was able to get away.

Beauford may have been a customer at New Options before the robbery -- he had been in the store before and was recognized by the owners, Huntley said.

Police believe Beauford helped plan the robbery and gave the other suspects forged paperwork to help them gain access to the business, Huntley said.

From the initial investigation in the days after the robbery, detectives believed there was a fifth suspect who helped the robbers, Huntley said. In October, detectives spoke with one of the other suspects again and narrowed their focus on Beauford.

"We had to put a number of pieces together," Huntley said. "Detectives have been working this case very diligently."

The other men arrested in the robbery were Walter Carter, 21, Justin St. John, 29, Lamare McGee, 22, and David Henderson, 40.

Carter pleaded guilty to felony theft -- a lesser charge -- earlier this month and is expected to avoid prison. The other three have entered not guilty pleas and are set for separate trials.
