A Boulder County employee was ticketed Monday morning on suspicion of running a red light and causing an accident that left an SUV flipped in the middle of 28th Street.
Douglas Ard, of Westminster, was driving a Boulder County maintenance pickup northbound on 28th Street at 10:49 a.m. when police say he ran a red light at Walnut Street.
Ard's truck hit a Ford Expedition being driven by Bruce Piggott, 63, of Estes Park. The SUV, which was headed east into the entrance of the Twenty Ninth Street mall, spun and rolled over onto its roof.
Firefighters had to cut Piggott free from the vehicle, but he was able to walk away without any injuries, police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Ard was ticketed for failing to obey a red light. There were no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved, Huntley said.
Northbound lanes on 28th Street were closed during the accident investigation but reopened about a half-hour later.
