What: Nearly Naked Mile
When: Friday, 8 p.m.
Where: Koenig Alumni Center
T he University of Colorado's student alumni association is hosting the eighth annual Nearly Naked Mile run and clothing drive on the Boulder campus Friday.
Event organizer and CU alumnae Dawn Barone said the group is expecting about 800 students to strip down to the "necessities" for the charity drive this year.
Participants are encouraged, but not required, to donate to the clothing drive, which will benefit A Precious Child -- a non-profit focused on helping Colorado children living in poverty.
Students arrive in the clothes they plan to donate and then toss the donations in a bin before running a mile through the campus.
"The important parts have to be covered, but otherwise it's whatever they're comfortable running in," Barone said. "I've seen everything from Speedos, to body paint, to a full-body polar bear costume in the past."
The event begins at 8 p.m. at the Koenig Alumni Center and ends at 10 p.m. Students can register early at cuherd.org or at the event on Friday, Barone said.
This year's theme is superheroes, so Barone predicts several students will be dressed in costume for the run.
Despite a chance for snow on Friday, Barone said the event will happen rain or snow and maybe even boost enthusiasm.
"Rain and snow actually seems to get the students more excited about the event," Barone said.
