Registration is now open for the next session of the Boulder Police Department's citizens' police academy.

The 12-week course, which is offered free of charge to community members over 18, is focused on providing insight into the day-to-day operations and philosophy of the Boulder police.

Features of the upcoming session include detectives discussing solved cases and investigation methods, a tour of the Boulder County Jail and a talk with SWAT team members about their operations and gear.

The deadline to register is Aug. 12. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Wednesday beginning Sept. 4.

Applicants should live or work in Boulder County and be able to pass a criminal background check.
