The first court appearance for Moises Mendez, a suspect in the murder of Lafayette's Nathaniel Tallman, has been delayed until Tuesday.

Mendez, 26, was scheduled to make his first appearance in a Boulder County courtroom today after being extradited from San Diego on Friday night, but that hearing will now take place Tuesday morning after prosecutors filed a motion to file charges directly to Boulder District Court.

Mendez is being held at the Boulder County Jail on a $1 million bond on suspicion of first-degree murder and a $500 bond for a violation of bail conditions, according to officials.

The body of Tallman, 25, was discovered March 13 along the side of a highway north of Lusk, Wyo., after he had been missing for nearly two months.

Boulder prosecutors charged another suspect, Russell Britton, 58, with first-degree murder Thursday in connection with the case. Charging documents filed by the Boulder County District Attorney's Office allege Britton took Tallman's car and marijuana -- but suggest he's not believed to have actually killed Tallman.

Lafayette police reported that Tallman was on his way to meet Britton to "conduct a marijuana transaction" at 7 p.m. Jan. 21, the last day he was seen by friends and family members.

The charges against Britton allege that he "unlawfully and feloniously rendered assistance to Daniel Ortiz and Moises Mendez, with intent to hinder, delay or prevent the discovery, detection, apprehension, prosecution, conviction or punishment of Daniel Ortiz and Moises Mendez for the commission of a crime, knowing that person committed the crime of murder in the first degree."

Mendez was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on March 15 in San Diego.

Police and prosecutors have not yet revealed what role Mendez is alleged to have played in Tallman's death, and his name was not mentioned in the police report released following Britton's arrest.

An arrest report on Mendez released by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office today also did reveal any details about his connection to Tallman's murder.

The third suspect, Ortiz, has not been arrested.
