A number of Boulder trails are closed today because recent rain and snow has made them extremely muddy, Open Space and Mountain Parks officials announced.

City officials say the move is necessary to prevent long-term damage to trails and nearby plant life.

The city has closed the Marshall Mesa, Greenbelt Plateau, Flatirons Vista and Doudy Draw trailheads.

The affected trails include Community Ditch, Doudy Draw, Springbrook Loop North and South, Goshawk Ridge, Flatirons VIsta North and South, Prairie Vista, High Plains, Greenbelt Plateau, Coalton, Coal Seam, Marshall Valley, Marshall Mesa and Cowdry Draw.

Lefthand Trail from Boulder Valley Ranch to Neva Road also also be closed.

Boulder officials say the trails will be re-opened "as conditions warrant."
