A University of Colorado student has been awarded the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which is funded by Microsoft founder Bill gates, for doctoral work in the United Kingdom.
Stephen Kissler, who is studying applied mathematics at the Boulder campus, will work toward a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and theoretical physics at Cambridge University with the help of the scholarship.
The scholarship provides three years of full funding. Kissler is one of 40 U.S. Gates Camrbdige scholarship recipients. He is the second CU-Boulder student to win the award.
Kissler is working on concurrent bachelor's and master's degrees at CU. At Cambridge, he said he plans to study the spread of influenza, he said in a news release.
