The University of Colorado plans to double the number of students on the Boulder campus who participate in an "international educational experience" by 2020, the university announced today.

The push is part of the Generation Study Abroad pledge launched by the Institution of International Education, which has an end goal of sending 600,000 U.S. students abroad by 2020.

According to a news release, CU will increase program access to traditionally underrepresented students, support academic units that develop their own initiatives, engage students early in their academic careers and increase the visibility of student abroad and other international educational programs.

CU sent 1,330 students abroad during the 2011-2012 school year, the most current data available.
