A University of Colorado student was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon in his Williams Village dorm room and later declared dead, campus officials announced.

Early indications show no signs of foul play, Dean of Students Christina M. Gonzales wrote in a message to CU students, faculty and staff.

CU police were called shortly before 2 p.m. about an unresponsive male in a Stearns West room, officials said. Paramedics responded and later determined he had died.

The student's name is not being released until his family can be notified.

CU police and the Boulder County Coroner's Office are investigating.

"This is certainly a difficult and challenging start to our school year," Gonzales wrote. "The loss of any member of our community is a terrible blow to all of us. Please know that our thoughts are with the family and friends of our student."

The fall semester began Monday on the Boulder campus.
