Joe Cahill, a beloved member of the Boulder music scene and longtime lighting designer for the Fox and Boulder theaters who was killed last week in New Orleans, will be honored Monday during a benefit concert at the Fox Theatre.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Monday for the memorial concert. The event will feature performances by The Motet and members of Leftover Salmon.

Tickets are $15 and are available now. All of the money collected at the event will go to a fund benefiting Cahill's 16-year-old daughter, Cassidy, according to organizers. A raffle and silent auction also are scheduled.

The benefit was announced on Facebook pages for the Fox and the Boulder Theater on Monday.

"We lost a member of our family last week. Please join us in celebrating the life of Joe Cahill ..." the posts read.

Cahill, 40, died April 28 after being shot in a New Orleans neighborhood after a homeowner reported that a bloody man burst into his home and began fighting with people inside, according to the Times-Picayune newspaper.

Cahill had just finished a tour with Leftover Salmon the night before but had planned to remain in New Orleans to visit friends and take in Jazz Fest.

The homeowner is not facing charges at this point, police said.

Cahill originally was from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and a funeral Mass will be held for him in his hometown Friday.

Cahill's surviving family, which includes his mother, Regina Cahill, three brothers and two sisters, issued a statement that has been shared on lohud.com, a New York news site.

"We are shocked and devastated by Joe's tragic and untimely death. He was a warm and caring man who brightened our lives with his love, compassion and terrific sense of humor," the statement read. "He was a wonderful brother, son, father, uncle and friend, and he will be dearly missed by the many people who were fortunate enough to have known him.

"We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the Boulder music community during this most difficult time. We are all blessed to have had Joe in our lives."

Donations to the Cassidy Cahill Fund are being accepted at any Bank of the West location and on the Fox Theatre website, foxtheatre.com. Donations can also be sent by mail to Bank of the West, 700 Fifth Ave., Longmont, CO 80501.
