The Boulder Farmers' Market is expanding one block north into One Boulder Plaza on Saturdays starting this weekend.

The location will feature about a dozen local prepared-food vendors and five local artists, plus live music, according to market officials. One Boulder Plaza plans to host the market through mid-October.

"We're a little bit landlocked, and the demand kept growing from vendors and from customers looking for new food," said Brian Coppom, executive director of Boulder County Farmers' Markets. "It gives us room to include those vendors and maybe even free up room for our producers on the original site."

Coppom said the market this year increased the number of farmers selling their produce, which required cutting back some on other vendors. The Boulder market has about 95 vendors with farmers, who must grow the produce they sell, and vendors who sell everything from bedding plants to cheese to prepared food.

He said the One Boulder Plaza area will provide a more relaxed, less crowded area for market customers. The area includes seating, with tables and benches, free parking for market customers and access to bathrooms.

"It's more of an outdoor cafe environment," Coppom said.

Katie Lazor, Boulder Farmers' Market spokeswoman, said the area will include a flower vendor and some vendors who either have been guest vendors or only able to sell at the market on Wednesdays.

"We're so excited for this space," she said.

Jodi Williams, property manager at One Boulder Plaza, said the owners have worked with the market for several years.

"It's a great use for the plaza and a great gateway from the farmers' market to Pearl Street Mall," she said.

The market plans to add an information table on the corner of Canyon Boulevard and 13th Street, helping customers become familiar with the new space and selling "Market Bucks."

The market will continue to provide prepared food and music in its original food court space, market officials said.

The main market is located at 13th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue.
