The 1up is quitting the music
On Monday, The 1up — Colfax announced that after two years of hosting concerts, they would no longer serve as a live music venue. The change took effect immediately, meaning that the dozens of shows the venue had booked through the end of the year were suddenly in limbo.
Brennen Bryarly of TheHundred was one of the promoters whose shows were lost in the shuffle. Bryarly booked the venue's DJ-heavy Wednesday nights. This year alone, Bryarly booked fifty shows at The 1up — Colfax, including Jamie xx, Jai Wolf and Cut Copy.
Bryarly was forced to scramble to find a home for the five shows he'd booked through December. The shows will go on, albeit in a new venue: From Plastician's set on Nov. 18 through Stooki Sound on Dec. 16, TheHundred rebooked all of their 1up — Colfax shows at Denver's Club Vinyl.
1up owner Jourdan Addler said that hosting concerts had long been a business aspiration. "It was always a dream of mine to combine music and arcade games," said Addler. "But ultimately, I think I'll leave the music industry up to the experts."
There are no current permanent plans for the now-vacant venue space, although it may serve as a temporary staging area for a forthcoming third 1up.
