The Boulder Police Department is accepting applications to fill several openings for victim advocate volunteers.

Victim advocates work with the victims of crimes, accidents, natural disasters and other incidents to provide support, information and referrals to other local resources.

Volunteers who sign up work monthly on-call shifts.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, and must attend a 40-hour training program and make a one-year commitment to the program.

The training session includes topics such as crisis intervention, community resources, active listening and emotional responses to grief and trauma.

Training runs from April 1 through April 19. Sessions are given on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The application deadline is March 25. For more information or to obtain an application, contact Susan Townley at 303-441-4048 or
