A break in a six-inch fire line Monday morning sent water spewing from the ground for nearly an hour near the corner of Pawnee Drive and Ponca Place in Boulder.

Boulder police and road crews responded around 11 a.m. Monday after a contractor with AT&T installing fiber optic cables severed a six-inch main that served Frasier Meadows Home, 350 Ponca Place, according to Chuck Wellman, the facilities manager at the retirement community.

Water gushed several feet into the air before crews were able to shut the flow off at 11:47 a.m.

Wellman said it's not known how much water spilled out, and AT&T handled the repairs.

Boulder police closed roads in the area temporarily to keep vehicles away. While the streets have been re-opened, city officials said the adjacent sidewalk may remain closed during repairs.
