A reader's poll conducted by Outside magazine for the cover story of its September issue places Boulder tenth on its list of "The 16 Greatest Places to Live in America."

Boulder collected 39,613 votes, finishing just behind Missoula, Montana, and just ahead of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Finishing first in Outside's readers survey was Duluth, Minnesota, swamping Boulder with 221,350 votes.

"It's easy to poke fun at Boulder, with its profusion of Priuses, roving bands of shaven-legged cyclists, and aggressive Whole Foods customers. But one man's punch line is another man's paradise," the article states.

Local attractions drawing notice in Outside are The Kitchen, the University of Colorado, the Boulder Theater and the Bitter Bar, described as serving "craft cocktails to mustached men in skinny jeans."
