A Boulder man accused of kicking a woman after telling her to "go back to China" was charged at his second court appearance in Boulder County Jail.

Jeffrey Karol Bonczyk, 48, is charged with committing a bias-motivated crime causing an injury, a Class 5 felony, and third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 29 at Boulder County Court.

According to an arrest affidavit, the victim and Bonczyk were both in the area of 28th Street and Arapahoe Avenue when Bonczyk became aggressive due to her perceived race.

Bonczyk told the victim to "go back to China," according to what she told police. After she said she is of native descent, he allegedly went on to say, "I'm the first one here, I'm the white one, I'm the Viking."

The victim told police he then pushed her down and kicked her several times.
