Two things have been consistent over CU football coach Dan Hawkins` tenure: losing seasons, and requests for more time.
One year and one three-win season after "10 wins, no excuses!" and time is up.
We beat a CSU team that was 3-9 in 2009, but just got absolutely dominated by Cal. This game was Hawkins` first test of the season against a good football team, and he failed spectacularly.
The 2010 CU football team is his team. He`s molded these players since they were freshmen. I`m not sure what he`s molded them into, but it`s not a competitive FBS football team.
The players are not to blame here -- they have the talent, and they have the drive. They just don`t have the coach.
What has Hawkins accomplished in his time here? One bowl game with mostly Barnett players, which he lost? A 33 percent win record? Losses against Montana State and Toledo?
His biggest accomplishment is convincing the athletic department he was worth a contract extension with no evidence to back it up. Maybe he`d do OK teaching marketing over in the business school. I`m not sure.
But he can`t possibly do any worse at Leeds than he is at Folsom, and I wouldn`t have to keep watching it year after year.
