Boulder police have issued an arrest warrant on attempted murder and aggravated robbery charges for Elliot Joseph Forgette in relation to Tuesday's Mapleton Hill shooting incident, according to officials.
Forgette, 29, also goes by the name "Kenny," and his last known address was in Thornton, according to Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel. Forgette -- who police said may at one time have also lived in Longmont -- has an extensive criminal history, with drug and auto theft charges in Boulder County in 2012 and an arrest in a drug and shoplifting case in Commerce City on Sunday.
The arrest warrant carries a $200,000 bond.
Police were first dispatched to the area of Fifth Street and Maxwell Avenue, in the city's historic and scenic Mapleton Hill neighborhood, at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday following a call from someone who believed they had heard a gunshot nearby.
Witnesses on the scene told officers that prior to the suspected gunshot, they saw two men jump out of a white sedan that had been parked in the 500 block of Maxwell and run into an alley, according to a police news release. After they disappeared from sight the possible shot was heard and the two were then seen running from the alleyway.
The area was checked for victims and no one was found to have been injured, the release said.
Officers found a handgun near Eighth Street and Maxwell Avenue a short time later, and officials said this morning they believe the gun was fired by Forgette at one of the two other males.
Police eventually tracked down the white sedan in the area of the Flatiron Crossing mall in Broomfield where they interviewed the driver, identified as Seth Mackenzie Havner, 27. Havner was spotted driving eastbound U.S. 36 and arrested at gunpoint, according to police radio traffic. He is now being held on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to appear.
Later on in the day police also were able to identify one of the men seen in the alley. Daniel Cole Kidd, 31, also was interviewed by police and arrested on unrelated drug charges, officials said.
Officials said all three men knew each other. Kobel said investigators do believe Forgette fired his weapon at either Havner of Kidd during a robbery attempt, but did not say which one of the men he is alleged to have fired at or what he was allegedly trying to steal.
Kobel said Forgette was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and gray shorts. He also has a tattoo on his upper arm of a marijuana leaf and another tattoo on his left arm of the state of Oregon with a green heart.
It is not known if Forgette is armed, but Kobel said anyone who sees him should not try to interact with him.
Anyone who sees Forgette or knows his location is asked to call Boulder police dispatchers at 303-441-3333 or 911.
