Ever wonder which beer pairs with your favorite cupcake?
Find out with Barley's Angels and the Boulder County Bombers derby team tonight at 7 p.m. at Sanitas Brewing Company for their event, Cupcakes and Cold Ones.
The Bombers will have some skaters available to answer questions about joining the team and Barley's Angels will be open to new members, as well.
The two organizations are coming together to not only help promote each other's causes, but to encourage women to become involved in their community.
According to Deborah Cameron, director of Barley's Angels Colorado, Barley's Angels is a women's craft beer social group that wants to visit all of the craft breweries in Denver and Boulder, and saw the opportunity to team up with the Bombers as a must after meeting at New Brew Fest in May.
"I thought to myself, 'Hey, here's another group that is looking to go out and empower women to do something interesting and exciting,'" Cameron said. "(The Bombers) is a really great organization for women, so wouldn't it be wonderful if we paired up?"
For the Bombers, the decision was just as easy to do this event.
"We (the Bombers) like to be involved in the community and we like to show support for other local businesses," Amelia VerSteegt, member of the Bombers, said. "They are a women's organization that likes to brew beer and we are a women's organization that likes to play a sport. ... We are beer connoisseurs ourselves and since they are local, (we wanted to partner with them)."
Cameron wanted to hold the event at Sanitas because it was the host of the first Barley's Angels event in Boulder in January of 2014. After Sanitas won Westword's Best Outdoor Taproom/Patio Award, Cameron wanted to hold another event in the summer.
"I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great to come back to Sanitas for something in summer so we can enjoy their outdoor space?'" Cameron said.
Although cupcakes and beer pairings may seem different, these types of pairing are nothing new to Barley's Angels.
The group has recently done a pairing with beer and Voodoo Donuts. They have also teamed up to do pairings with handcrafted Colorado salsas and Olomomo Nuts.
"Beer is incredibly versatile and we want to explore all of that," Cameron said.
Tickets will be $13 and include a pint of beer and a cupcake pairing, and a brewery tour.
