We hope your holiday season was filled with family, friends and local love. Since farmers never rest, Boulder County Farmers Markets is already prepping for the new year. Applications for the 2019 season are open for new vendors until Jan. 6, and the staff is always excited to bring new and passionate vendors to the market street. If you eat, drink and breathe local food and community, here's a look into how we select our crew of vendors each year and some qualities they possess.

Our vendors care about what they grow and produce — and they care about how and why they do it. It's a moment, a meal, a family tradition that are things inspiring them to recreate and share their experiences with the community.

For the Boulder County Farmers Markets' farmers, building a burgeoning business is important, but quality is also key. Precise technique and knowledge, top-notch ingredients, superb customer service and love makes the food farmers market food high quality.

Our farmers and ranchers daily have a commitment to leave the world a better place than they found it — be it regenerative grazing, carbon sequestration, or biodynamic farming. Similarly, packaged and prepared vendors are passionate about local sourcing, eco-friendly packaging and other environmental practices that support planet health.

The Boulder County Farmers Markets' vendors care about the community. Every year, vendors build strong threads with customers, weaving a tight and reliable community fabric.

Sustenance may be a basic need, but it doesn't stop with nutrition — we need it for our souls. At the market, soul — as well as healthy, nutritious vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs and goods — are in bountiful supply.

Farm or food businesses that practice these values are encouraged to apply. Apply by Jan. 6 at bcfm.org/vendor-application.

We're counting the days until we meet again at the markets.
