Get ready for a tropically inspired night of music in Boulder and Denver.
That's because Dubskin's hitting the Boulder Theater, its Reggae Night at the Boulder Draft House and there are two Haiti benefits taking place Wednesday.
Dubskin
Wednesday night, the Boulder Theater hosts a very cool roster of reggae and world-beat bands featuring Dubskin, Euforquestra and Mr. Anonymous. All three acts are based in Colorado and the show will give music fans a good taste of local talent.
Dubskin is five-piece reggae band that fuses together a blend of old and new sounds. The group's latest CD is called No End in Time, and Pretty Lights' Derek Smith produced it.
Who: Dubskin and Euforquestra, with Mr. Anonymous
When: 9 p.m. Wednesday
Where: Boulder Theater, 2032 14th St.
Cost: $12
That comes as no surprise, as Dubskin drummer Corey Eberhard also tours with Pretty Lights, which -- in a highly unusual booking -- will play both the Boulder Theater on March 10 and the Fox Theatre on March 11.
"I'm definitely juggling both acts," Eberhard said. "Pretty Lights is getting more established, so it's given me time to perform with Dubskin."
Eberhard initiated Dubskin before he played in Pretty Lights. The reggae/dub outfit has gained its own momentum, and shared stages with
reggae greats Burning Spear, Midnite and Israel Vibrations."Dubskin tries to keep the music dancey and modern," Eberhard said. "We definitely perform a new version of old-school reggae, because we add lots of modern things. We have hip-hop, electronic and rock elements.
"We've just gotten tighter since our last record came out. No End in Time was mixed by Jason "Jocko" Randall of John Brown's Body -- and its available for free downloading."
Dubskin's encouraging local fans to check out its Boulder Theater show. You can't go wrong with three bands for $12.
Also tonight, the Boulder Draft House's Reggae Wednesday Party features Spellbinder.
Haiti Benefits
The Fox hosts the "All CU A Cappella Benefit for Haiti" on Wednesday.
The event features sets by vocal bands On the Rocks, In the Buff, Extreme Measures, Mile 21 and The Buffoons. The all-ages show only costs $6.
And Bender's Tavern in Denver also is hosting a Haiti benefit party.
Wednesday's show will help out the Red Cross, and features sets by Tripsin Effect, Mane Rok and The Rep. Tickets are only $5.
