Picking the best songs — or your favorite songs — of the year is a weird exercise in self-reflection and cultural analysis. This year, I think we were all totally fucked up and completely cool with that.

The fun thing about making a year-end playlist is the lack of pressure to be as objective as possible. Even a ranking of the year's albums is going to be a bit subjective, but there are plenty of ways to hone in on what makes a collection of music better and remove the "I wanna put this on repeat forever" or "this is my drunk jam" factors. With songs, I think, there's wiggle room for those things.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing now. I won't put them in order, but this is my Best of 2013 playlist. It's the songs that shot into my most played on iTunes, the ones I belted to in the car (sorry, friends), the ones I danced alone to in my apartment and the ones that left me incapable of doing a single other thing besides listen intently and mumble profanities.

So, here are my top 26 songs of 2013 (because screw 25, I guess).
