It's awfully quiet on the Front Range.

The holiday season tends to bring a hush over the local music venues, but there are still shows to check out. Sunday is dead silent, but we've got a couple things on the radar for Friday and Saturday.

Stay warm and rock on.

The Yawpers

10 p.m. Friday

Conor O'Neill's, 1922 13th St., Boulder, 303-449-1922

conoroneills.com/boulder

You know the drill. Get drunk, rock hard.

There is one difference this time, though. The Yawpers have yet another new drummer behind the kit. It's a bummer to see James Hale go, but Nate Cook and Jesse Parmet can certainly be trusted to fill his shoes. Or beard. Or whatever.

Bonus: You might hear some of the new music they've been working on.

The Head and The Heart

9 p.m. Friday

$30.75-$36

Ogden Theatre, 935 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, 303-832-1874

This will be The Head and The Heart's second night in a row at the Ogden Theatre, but don't expect the energy to be low.

OK, yeah, the album title Let's Be Still doesn't promise a rowdy evening, either. We swear this will be fun, though. The band's charming-as-hell folk pop can get a room moving.

Manic Focus & The Floozies

9 p.m. Saturday

$12-$14

Fox Theatre, 1135 13th St., Boulder, 303-447-0095

foxtheatre.com

This is Boulder, so here's your regular dose of jamtronica. Manic Focus and The Floozies — two different groups — will be co-headlining the Fox with their genre-mashup brands of EDM.

ChiTown-based Manic Focus has the word bass about a million times in his bio, so get ready to be rattled. The Floozies do the live-instrument thing, with brothers Matt and Mark Hill on guitar and drums.

The Deep Dark Woods

9:30 p.m. Saturday

$10

hi-dive, 7 S. Broadway, Denver, 303-733-0230

hidive.com

"With Jubilee, The Deep Dark Woods revel in the jangly, freewheeling days of psychedelic and electric folk," says the band bio.

Dancing to that kind of music sounds like a fun way to spend a cold December night. The band hails from Saskatchewan, Canada, so they know a thing or two about partying in this weather. Apparently, they know some things about improvisation and live experimentation, too.
