Branded Bandits has been playing around Colorado for a while now, so it's about time they put something down on a record. The Boulder trio — Tyler Sanderson and siblings John and LuLu Demitro — is about to release their debut EP, Change, with a show to celebrate at the hi-dive this weekend. We caught the band post-practice session to talk about it.

I just watched you new video. Was smashing that car the most satisfying feeling?

John Demitro: Oh, yeah, it was a blast. We spent 10 hours that day filming from, like, 8 to 6 or something. It was a really fun video to make. We just destroyed the car, and we're lucky enough to have fan with a bowling ball cannon and a car.

I guess finishing a debut EP is more satisfying, though.

JD: Absolutely. It's nice to finally release it and have everybody hear what we've been working so hard on.

Tell me about making the EP. How long have you been working on this material?

JD: We recorded at UI Sound Studios back in March. We did that for about a month. We did tracking pretty fast, and there was a lot of waiting around because we were pretty sick. We had a few lineup changes and that slowed us down. We had it mastered by Brian Gardner ... We had to wait for him but it was totally worth it because he's mastered everybody albums, a huge array of genres and stuff.

It's definitely nice to be done with it and have people hear it.

LuLu Demitro: It's been a year.

Are you going to tour after the release?

LD: We're planning to go on tour in June or in the spring, hopefully, we're gonna do a southern tour and just hit all those places and hopefully it'll go well.

Have you done anything like that before?

LD: We haven't toured before, but we've played around in Colorado a bunch: Aspen, Breckenridge, Denver, Greeley, Boulder, everywhere.

JD: We're super excited to get out there.

You've been playing together for longer than this past year, so this must feel a long time coming.

LD: These songs that are on the EP we've had for like two years now. We do not get tired of playing them which is surprising.

JD: It's always a new experience every time we play them.
