A man who Boulder police said was concealing a homemade "shank" in his pants was arrested Thursday night on suspicion that he seriously injured another man during a fight outside the McDonald's on 28th Street.
Adam Cohen, 33, was booked into the Boulder County Jail after he and another man got into a fight outside McDonald's at 1800 28th St., police said.
According to police reports, Cohen, a transient, was approached by an intoxicated man outside the fast-food restaurant about 4 p.m. Thursday.
The man, identified as Jonas James Kee, 48, of Boulder, began pushing Cohen and ripped his shirt, police said.
Cohen told officers that he defended himself and fought off the attacker.
Witnesses, however, told police that they saw Cohen "stomping on the back of Kee's head" and beating him on the ground and against a metal barrier.
Kee was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said. Cohen was treated for a minor injury to his toe.
Police arrested Cohen on suspicion of second-degree assault. He faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon after police found a large nail with a duct-tape handle stuffed in Cohen's pants. He remained in custody at the Boulder County Jail.
Kee was issued a summons on suspicion of third-degree assault.
