These undated images from a surveillance video provided by Longmont police show a man claiming to be a police detective trying to get an adult novelty shop to give him free X-rated videos, saying he wanted to see if the performers were legally old enough, according to police reports.

A Longmont man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of impersonating an officer after attempting to score free X-rated videos at an adult novelty shop, saying he wanted to review the videos to make sure performers were of legal age, police said.
Andrew Libby, 33, was arrested by SWAT officers at his home in the 1000 block of Pratt Street on charges including two counts of impersonating a police officer, possession of an illegal weapon and child abuse, said Cmdr. Tim Lewis.
During a search of the home, police found illegal knives, a semi-automatic handgun, several large swords and a metal security badge, Lewis said.
Libby is a convicted felon and is not allowed to be in possession of a firearm, Lewis said.
Lewis said Libby made two attempts to obtain free videos at Mile High Emporium, 1407 Main St. in Longmont, within nine days last month and was turned down each time. A store manager called 911 and submitted video surveillance of the suspect to investigators.
Libby would identify himself as a Longmont police detective working for the “age verification unit,” which does not exist, Lewis said. He would show a badge and leave a business card without a name for store employees.
A search of Libby’s criminal record in Colorado shows previous arrests on suspicion of burglary, assault, illegally carrying a concealed weapon and witness intimidation between 1994 and 1996.
Lewis said there is no evidence Libby, who is unemployed, has tried to impersonate a police officer before.
“This is a scheme he concocted on his own to try and get some porn,” Lewis said. “This guy has some issues.”
The suspect’s mother and 9-year-old son were home at the time of the arrest. The son was removed and placed into foster care.
