Matthew Moon and Nina Storey have one foot in Colorado and the other in L.A., and both artists are drawing attention to the Boulder/Denver music scene.
The musicians have been hearing their tunes show up in popular movies and TV shows, and tonight the performers return to the Fox Theatre. Joining the artists is Denver up-and-comer Rob Drabkin.
Moon hits the big screen
The last time Club Notes checked in with singer/songwriter Matthew Moon, he was sharing the stage with Velvet Revolver at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. The Colorado native is now up to bigger and better things.
Moon co-wrote the NBC Olympic promo tune "Don't Change 4 Me" with Danny Wilde from the Rembrandts (the band that wrote the theme song for "Friends") and Jesse Valenzuela from the Gin Blossoms. The song then made its way into the hands of the producers of the upcoming movie "Soccer Mom."
The teen film stars Emily Osment -- who plays Miley Cyrus' BFF on "Hannah Montana." Now, Moon's new tune will close out the credits of "Soccer Mom," The movie's due to hit theaters Sept. 30.
Anything that has a Disney star connection means the cash registers will be going ca-ching -- and that should be good news for Moon.
"I got a big buzz on MySpace after I performed at Sundance," Moon said. "It got me a deal with Larry Richter, who works with Eric Clapton. It also got me a write-up in Pollstar magazine as an emerging artist. All that led to co-writing the NBC summer Olympic promo and having 'Don't Change 4 Me' placed in the closing credits of 'Soccer Mom.'
"It was chosen for the movie, because it has such a positive message."
Moon also has Denver radio station KTCL (93.3 FM) to thank for his music success. The new single was put in the station's roundtable listening session and now it's getting regular play.
"I'm also playing a special show for the DNC on Monday with Robert Randolph," Moon said. "It's for Headcount, a nonprofit group that gets people registered to vote. I'm also going to be touring out east with Nina Storey this fall."
That's not all. Moon has a new 4-song CD called My California that's available on iTunes and CD Baby. The performer is also getting ready to release a DVD that was filmed at several Denver shows.
Nina Storey's story
Nina Storey will be joining Moon on tour this fall and she'll be playing the Fox tonight. The performer also calls both Denver and L.A. home, but she's been making the most of her time recording music for TV series and films in California.
Storey has appeared on the TV show "Girlfriends," her tune "No Man" was featured on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" and her original songs have been used in the NBC soap "One Life to Live."
"I'm going to be in Colorado to play the Fox," Storey said. "I'll also be playing a show at Red Rocks with Willie Nelson. It will be on Tuesday and it's a benefit for Darfur. I'm really excited to be playing all my new stuff, since I've been doing some totally new things with my music. It's now got an indie rock edge to it and the sound is more intense.

Nina Storey drew one of the biggest crowds of the weekend on the Walnut Street Stage at Bohemian Nights @ New West Fest in Fort Collins, this past Sunday. Sorry to say that my duties at the festival meant I missed her performance. But based on the size of the audience she had, it musta been a good set.
Good for Matt Moon! He's been a fan favorite in Colorado for years now.
Both he and Nina deserve the fruits of their hard work going back to the early to mid 90s.
