IF YOU GO
What: The Shoot Out Boulder 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival
When: Oct. 10-12
Where: Throughout Boulder
Cost: $50-$100 per team
A team of highly skilled professionals is not needed for this 24-hour filmmaking competition.
Seriously.
Got a video camera and a day? Then you're in for The Shoot Out Boulder, which is now letting filmmakers sign up for this fall's annual contest.
Here's the deal: Make a seven-minute film in 24 hours, including in-camera editing (yup, exactly how it sounds), thrill the judges and the win the chance to be screened at the Boulder International Film Festival in February.
Michael Conti, The Shoot Out Boulder's executive director, says past entries have run the gamut from amatuers to professionals, including students and families.
"All you need is a video camera," he said Wednesday. "You can actually do this with a $200 consumer camera."
So, what if you cheat and film it over two weeks?
Simple. You can't.
When the herd of filmmakers show up on Oct. 10, "The Brief" -- a list of 11 items -- will be dispersed. Five of these specific-to-Boulder items must be used in the film, including one in the first 30 seconds.
Less than a day later, judges will review the films.
Conti's advice?
"Be organized and have fun," he said. "Don't take yourself too seriously. This is all about keeping Boulder unique."
