University of Colorado Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Mark Wetmore has announced the signing of 15 prep student-athletes for the 2008-09 season.

"This is a very big men's class and a relatively small women's class," Wetmore said. "We're excited about both sides though. On the men's side there are some unheralded people that we think will develop into excellent collegiate runners. And on the women's side we think there are people that will step in and have an impact for us immediately."

The men's team will have 11 newcomers; while the women's team has four. All 15 recruits will be members of the cross country and either distance or middle distance runners for the track program.

Matthew Biegner (Broomfield High) runs the 200m, cross country runner Scott Blair (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Joe Bosshard (La Crosse, Wis.), Courtney Clark (Olivenhain, Calif.), steeplechaser Emma Coburn (Crested Butte, Colo.), Katie Cumming (Hudson, Wis.), Grant Duffy (Lincoln, Neb.), Grand Junction native Stephen Kasica, Jordan Kyle (transfer from Indiana University), Martin Medina (Grand Junction, Colo.) wil join older brother Richard at CU, Patrick Nilan (Sacramento, Calif.), Kaylen Slack (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Jonathan Stevens (Vail, Colo.), Aric Van Halen (Los Angeles), and Brett Walters (Victorville, Calif.) make up the class.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will conduct an International Certification Workshop at the University of Colorado South Campus Courts, Aug. 9 and 10. Saturday's workshop will begin from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The workshop is for established and prospective teachers who wish to become certified by the PTR. Emphasis is placed on the development of biomechanically sound strokes providing an understanding of the fundamentals of group teaching techniques.

Details of the serve, forehand and backhand are demonstrated as part of a standardized method of instruction. The workshop will be primarily conducted with on-court, hands-on instruction.

The workshop fee is $95 for members and $195 for non-members.
