Search crews found a pair of hikers alive and uninjured early this morning after the men were reported missing near Eldora late Sunday night, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

Patrick Nelson, 21, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Sean Klomparens, 20, of Rockville, Md., headed into the backcountry Saturday morning. They had planned to hike the Arapahoe Peak Trail out of the Buckingham campground in the Indian Peaks area and then climb the 13,397-foot South Arapahoe Peak, the sheriff's office reported.

They were expected to return to Nelson's parents home in Windsor by 5 p.m. Sunday, and when they hadn't arrived by 10 p.m., Nelson's mother called authorities.

Search crews found the hikers' vehicle at the campground and started a search late Sunday night. Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and Nederland Fire Protection District helped search trails overnight, and rescue efforts were expanded early this morning.

A Flight for Life helicopter and search dog pored over the area until searchers found the men about 8:40 a.m. near Goose Lake, northeast of South Arapahoe Peak.

Nelson and Klomparens said they got lost and were off their planned route, the sheriff's office reported.
