No doubt about it, the Boulder/Denver music and club scene is growing at a rapid pace. BYE BYE BABU
Cafe Babu on the Hill is bye bye. The all-ages club tried everything from all-night dance parties to comedy nights, but last week Babu called it quits. It's too bad, because the venue hosted a very cool upstairs concert hall and tried to bring some new bands and DJs to Boulder.
THEY CALL ME MR. DIBBS
Tonight the Fox Theatre hosts Cincinnati turntable master Mr. Dibbs. The mixmaster is known for his cross-genre mixes and his Hardcore Turntable releases. Rob Viktum and Tullie open the Fox show.
FLAMENCO AND REGGAE
If you like your jazz and world beat music mixed up with some flamenco grooves, then you'll want to check out guitarist Jesse Cook at the Boulder Theater tonight. The musician has performed with everyone from members of the Afro-Celt Sound System to the Gipsy Kings, and his shows always rally world music fans in Boulder. This time around, Cook will be visiting the theater with his sextet.
Wednesday night is Reggae Night at Redfish, so get your island groove on with The Rude Boys tonight.
ROAD TRIP
It may be mid-week, but tonight would be a good night to drive down to Denver - especially if you like bands from Austin, Texas. The college town has been busy cranking out hot bands like the Ghostland Observatory and The Heathens. Now get ready for the Dedringers.
The band's frontmen Sean Faires and Jonny Burke are only 22, but the Dedringers are already gaining a name for themselves on the rural rock circuit. The group fuses together an edgy blend of blues and countrified rock sounds, and you can check them out at the 3 Kings Tavern, 60 S. Broadway in Denver, tonight.
Mark Sundermeier from popular Denver band The Trampolines just sent an email over, saying the group was getting to release the "long-overdue" full-length CD. The musician is also the booking agent for the metro club Toad Tavern, 5302 S. Federal Cir. in Littleton, and tonight the venue and MTV2 are hosting a show with indie-folk act Joshua James.
Wait, there's more - Shinedown and Black Cherry play the Gothic Theater, 3263 S. Broadway in Englewood, tonight and Suede Denim Secret Police and The Masculine hit the Larimer Lounge, 2721 Larimer St. in Denver.
COMEDY NIGHT IN DENVER
Comedian/actor Eddie Izzard is coming to the Paramount Theatre in Denver tonight and Thursday to give local audiences a dose of his raw brand of comedy. The multi-talented performer is hitting the road between seasons of his FX-network dramedy "The Riches."
