The sixth annual Smith Optics Lyons Outdoor Games will be held Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1 in and around Bohn Park in Lyons.
“For people in Lyons,” says Oskar Blues founder Dale Katechis, “outdoor recreation is as important as great beer, music and small-town living. The Outdoor Games are a chance for us to put a spotlight on the outdoor activities we enjoy here, and lure more people into the outdoor-sports fold.”
Throughout the weekend of the Games, attendees will be able to watch and participate in various clinics taught by some of the world’s most elite kayakers, mountain bikers, bicycle dirt jumpers and fly fishers.
Many of these elite athletes will also compete in competitions in their respective sports throughout the Games. Amateur athletes of all skill levels can also take part in various competitions in their sports.
100% of the participant fees from the fest’s clinics and competitions go to the Lyons Parks & Recreation Department.
Friday, May 30 at 5:30 PM, Oskar Blues presents a Smith Optics Lyons Outdoor Games kick-off party in Sandstone Park (across the street from Oskar Blues). The family-friendly affair will include live bluegrass from the town’s best pickers and down-home food from Oskar Blues.
There will also be a viewing of the Clear H2Ofilms movie, The Lost World, Hotel Charley Vol. 3. This feature-length film documents first descents of wild, free-flowing rivers around the world. The kick-off event is open to the public.
Spectator friendly competitions throughout the weekend including freestyle kayaking and creek racing, mountain bike short-track racing, and jump competitions in Lyons’ new world-class mountain bike jump park.
Area canines will also compete in speed retrieve and “cannonball splash” competitions, which are open to any dog whose owner thinks their dog has special skills.
